Porsche 964 Service at Braunton Engineering
Porsche 964 Repair
The Porsche 964 is held with particular respect by the team at Braunton Engineering as both Ashley and Chris have owned this model. Ashley currently runs a Carrera 4 as well as his 911 SC (the long-standing joke being that whichever car Ashley steps from he raves with a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye). Chris remembers a Carrera 2 which he owned in 2001 (and still regrets selling) there is something unique about the 964 - a touch of new to the classic shape, a great combination of new tricks to the old girl - awesome! Porsche 964 repair and Porsche 964 service at Braunton Engineering in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, South West, with servicing & repair, modification in Devon by a dedicated independent.

The Porsche 964 was a new take on the 911 with a further development of the flat six engine to 3.6 litres but with twin spark plugs per cylinder and dual distributors. The engine still requires valve clearance adjustment at service which is is time consuming as part of the exhaust has to be removed to complete this. The 964 engine is renowned for oil leaks from various areas, some of these minor, some more difficult to rectify.
The benefit of the development of the flat 6 was not only power increased to 250bhp but that sound difference to the 3.2 flat six. The 3.6 delivers a deeper, smoother note to the older engines sound. The 964 body was revised slightly with wrap around PU impact resistant bumpers yet the car retained the original shape of the 911 with its distinctive front wings and headlights but now included ABS. The rear featured an automatic spoiler which was deployed at speeds above 40mph. The 964 has developed a good following in recent years, partly due to their lower purchase values but also due to the benefits to the driver of the 964 over the 911 3.2. The gear change is excellent and handling and ride feels refined.
Porsche 964 Service common faults include: Distributor drive belt failure, engine oil leaks – an initial design flaw was the lack of head gasket use in early engines and as the engine ran hotter this resulted in head warp and oil leaks (Porsche rectified this for '91 model year), dual mass flywheel failure, four wheel drive diff failure, 964 rusty bodywork, 964 windscreen aperture corroson, 964 heater control faults, engine and power steering oil leaks.
Porsche 964 bent brake pipe replacement.
The 993 represents 911 perfection to most of the team at Braunton Engineering but at an extra price - that extra over the price of a 964 make the 964 great value and at todays prices, an investment for the future. Both the 964 and 993 are a true sports cars (not GTs), which have the power, the ride, the handling, the refinement yet still retain most of the original character of the 911 to deliver driver satisfaction with each outing.
