Braunton Engineering Team
Porsche Specialists in Devon
Meet the team...
Braunton are a team who share the same passion for Porsches and sports cars as their customers. The key team members each own a Porsche, and spend many dedicated hours maintaining and driving their cars. Importantly, they understand the burden of paying high prices for original parts, and the time it takes to deliver a high standard of maintenance.
The team are not just a collection of work colleagues, but a group of good friends; an example of this is the team’s weekly mountain bike expedition which usually sees some form of comedy drama unfold. They organise an annual trip to the Le Mans race - the road trip in their Porsches is one of the highlights of their calendar.
The team's greatest satisfaction is hearing feedback from a customer who has collected their car and noticed a positive difference in the way their car performs/handles or looks. They take great personal pride in their work and the evidence of this commitment comes in the form of a limited parts and labour warranty with each job.
Chief Technician/Proprietor: Ashley

Ashley, a Porsche specialist through and through, owns more Porsches than is healthy for any one individual – not all of them are road worthy it must be said, but he is a die-hard ‘Porschehead’. His current road cars are a Porsche 996 3.6, a 964 Carrera 4 and a Cayenne (other models include: 928s4, 928, 951, 911sc, 911 2.7, 911 race shell). Ashley is not blinkered by the Porsche brand and aspires to join the Ferrari camp at some point in the future. ‘Technician Black’ is the business owner, the senior MOT tester and oversees the day to day running of the workshops.
Ashley is an oracle of engineering know how – a naturally gifted mechanic with a steady hand and an ability to think outside the box… He can rebuild an engine or gearbox and instinctively knows where each piece goes. He is equally at home sorting through vehicle electrics and electronics, fault-finding and occasionally performing routine servicing.
If you brought Ashley a Maserati in pieces he would be able to rebuild it in one week with an old Swiss army knife and a short length of twine – no, only kidding, but he does possess an uncanny technical ability.
Ashley is always on hand to answer any technical questions a new or regular customer might have.
Business Manager: Chris
Chris
is a Porsche obsessive…. He has owned many different models over the years, having traded a variety of sports cars along the way, and has
played a key role in developing the Braunton car service specifically for Porsche
owners across the South West. Working alongside Gold Coast Media, the website www.brauntonengineering.co.uk has been developed with editorial content & photographs by Chris, covering life at the garage.
Prior to working at Braunton Engineering, Chris travelled the length and
breadth of the UK, mostly in Porsches and high performance sports cars,
clocking up thousands of miles. At that time he used Porsche specialists in
the South East of England including: Camtune, GT One, Northway, RSR Engineering - Russell Lewis, OPC Guildford,
AFN as well as servicing and repairing his own cars from 911s through to TVRs. Chris
flies a desk these days, but still enjoys working on and driving his own cars, a '928gt' and an Alfa Romeo 155 wide-body. Chris has been with the team since 2009.
Senior Technician: Dave
Dave
has an artist’s gift with fabrication and welding and is the key restoration
man. His restoration standard is very close to how these Porsches left Stuttgart but with extra strength for a long future – the
website features some photos of Dave’s work on 911 chassis - please have a
look. Dave is another ‘Porschehead’ and currently owns a 944 with aspirations
of rebuilding a 951 to its former glory.
Dave performs a vast amount of the repairs on the Porsche & super cars which come through the workshops. He possesses great patience with fiddly bits of trim etc and performs routine servicing, MOT repairs, fault-finding and repair including auto electics and also has the talent to rebuild engines and road test cars to find a fault or faint noise. Dave is a disciplined individual who prides himself on being precise and swift in all that he does, and has been with the team since 2001. If you were in a tight spot, you would want a Dave by your side (...if only to deliver humour at just the right/wrong moment!).
MOT Manager: John
John
manages the MOTs at the garage, from booking, testing & organising parts for the repairs. He performs the lion's share of MOT testing and repairs. He has an eye for safety
and his tests are incredibly consistent and accurate. If you want to know if your
car will be safe for the coming year, John is the tester for you. He is fair with
his testing and has an exemplary record with VOSA as a MOT tester over the past
ten years.
John’s talents lie in his ability to get on with the nitty gritty jobs, from cambelt changes, through routine servicing, fault-finding and repairs. John has a passion for classic cars and admires Porsches and the top marque cars the workshops see each week. He is hard working and a responsible individual - he has been with the team since 1999.
Senior Technician: Alen

Alen is the man you would like to strip your engine and rebuild it. He is fastidious and precise - a gifted technician, who, like Ashley, instinctively knows how things work and where parts go and why. If your engine or gearbox require removal and rebuild, from Porsche to Ferrari, Alen will likely be the patient individual stripping the unit down, making meticulous notes and rebuilding the unit with spotless, new or refurbished parts.
Braunton Engineering consider themselves fortunate to have a talent like Alen. Alen is a petrolhead, multiple performance car owner too. He has a passion for Jaguars and owns a XJR and a mint Porsche 928 S4, the latter which is currently being prepared to concours level. Alen is a great team player and a key member of the Braunton team. Alen has worked alongside the team since 1999.
Senior Technician - bodyshop/repairs: Steve
Steve
works mainly on bodywork, repairs and
restoration including preparation, painting and finishing to the highest
standard. If your beloved Porsche requires part-renovation or a scrape put
right, Steve is an experienced bodyshop technician who has the patience of a
saint, and an amazing eye for detail and finding the exact colour shade - the job is not ready until Steve is happy with the result.
Steve
works closely with Dave on the restoration
side. He is also a MOT tester. Braunton are blessed to have such a motivated character like Steve
working alongside them, a man with considerable knowledge and experience
gleaned from years of hard graft. Steve is passionate about classic motorcross and has collected many titles and trophies. Steve has worked closely with the team since 2009, prior to that he owned his own garage.
Administration & Accounts Manager: Amanda

Amanda handles the administration and accounts side. Amanda is a precise, efficient individual - previously employed by a high street Bank. Amanda has a passion for performance cars too ! Like Chris, Amanda drives an Alfa Romeo as a daily driver – a brand that demands it's long term owners are true enthusiasts! Amanda’s patience and dedication to organising the admin and accounting each week allows the Braunton team the extra time to focus on the routine of a busy workshop and providing a top level of customer service which the Bosch network demands. The team owe a great deal of gratitude to Amanda for such a difficult job completed so well. Amanda has been with the team since 2000.
Braunton Engineering are fans of Porsche Club GB and advertise in their magazine Porsche Post, and in the Porsche motoring magazines 911 & Porsche World and Total 911
Braunton are carefully selected collection of professionals; qualified mechanics, Bosch technicians, MOT testers - each with a specialist talent. They possess an undying belief in the Porsche brand and a passion for the exotic shapes which grace the workshops.
